Everything below is optional: you can simply open the app and start typing.
Write the moment you open it
Stillmark Note opens straight into today's note with the cursor ready. Nothing to tap first.
- Today's note lives in Daily, one file per day.
- Rather pick up where you left off? Settings › When You Open the App.
Add a thought without opening the app
Quick Note adds what you say or type to the end of today's note, from Siri or the Action button. Widgets and Control Center open a note in one tap.
- Siri: say "Quick note in Stillmark Note", then say what to write. Siri answers "Saved to today's note."
- From any app: tap Share › Stillmark Note to add text or a link to the end of today's note.
- If Siri opens another app instead: in the Shortcuts app, tap +, add Stillmark Note › Quick Note, and give the shortcut a short name of your own. Then say that name to Siri.
- Action button: Settings › Action Button › Shortcut › Stillmark Note › Quick Note.
- Widgets: touch and hold the Home Screen or Lock Screen, tap Edit › Add Widget, then choose Stillmark Note. Today's Note opens today's page; New Note starts a fresh one.
- Control Center (iOS 18 or later): swipe down from the top right, tap +, then Add a Control › Stillmark Note.
A quiet toolbar while you type
Formatting sits above the keyboard only while you write, and nothing else ever appears on the page.
- Headings, bold, italic, checklists, lists and [[links]] are one tap away.
- Select text to see the Format menu.
- Tap a checkbox to tick it, or a web link to open it. With the keyboard hidden, tap a [[link]] or a photo to open it.
- Scan text with the camera, add a photo or your location from the … menu, or paste a copied picture.
Link your thinking
Write [[Note Title]] to connect notes. Each note shows which notes link back to it.
- Type [[ and pick a note from the list that appears, so you never mistype a title.
- Tap a link to open that note, or create it if it doesn't exist yet.
- Notes that link here are listed at the end of the note.
Organized by action, with P.A.R.A
Projects, Areas, Resources and Archives give every note an obvious home. Add subfolders inside them, and folders of your own beside them.
- Open a folder and tap its name at the top for everything you can do with it: a new folder inside, rename, lock, export, delete.
- Subfolders are the first rows of a folder's list. The + beside P.A.R.A or My Folders in the sidebar adds a folder there.
- Finished a project? Choose Complete Project from its menu: it moves to Archives, nothing is deleted.
- Drag notes onto folders on iPad.
- Why these four folders? Tap ⓘ beside P.A.R.A in the sidebar.
Search that answers from your own notes
Tap the magnifying glass on any screen to search. It works in Thai, English, Chinese and Japanese.
- Keywords finds words anywhere, even inside longer Thai words, and words that mean the same: condo also finds ห้องชุด.
- Meaning (when the app is in English) finds notes about the same idea, even with different words.
- Quotes finds the exact lines that answer your question, with the note and line number. If your notes don't say, it tells you so instead of guessing.
- Add your own synonyms in Settings › Synonyms.
Built to keep your writing safe
The top of every note shows when it was last saved on this device.
- If a note changes somewhere else while you edit, both versions are kept as separate files. Nothing is overwritten.
- Version History (… menu) keeps 30 days of earlier versions and shows exactly what changed. Restoring keeps the current version too.
- Deleted notes and folders stay in Settings › Recently Deleted for 30 days, images included. Undo appears right after deleting.
- Back up to iCloud Drive or another folder in Settings › Backup: each time you leave the app, or once a day, week or month. On a new iPhone, Restore on the same page brings your notes back. Notes from Obsidian, Bear or Notion come in through Settings › Import & Export.
Private by design
Stillmark Note works fully offline. No account, no subscription, no tracking.
- Every note is a plain .md file. Find them in the Files app under On My iPhone › Stillmark Note, and open them with any app.
- Lock a folder from its menu to hide its notes until you unlock them with Face ID, Touch ID or your passcode. Files aren't encrypted.
Make it yours
Ten calm color themes, light or dark, and fonts chosen for reading Thai and English.
- Settings › Appearance, and Settings › Text & Font.
- Switch the app language in Settings › App Language: English, ไทย, 简体中文 or 日本語.
Outside the app
Widgets
Add Today's Note or New Note to your Home Screen or Lock Screen: touch and hold the Home Screen, tap Edit › Add Widget, and search for Stillmark Note.
Control Center
On iOS 18 or later, open Control Center, touch and hold, tap Add a Control, and search for Stillmark Note. The same controls can go on the Lock Screen or the Action button.
Siri and Shortcuts
Quick Note adds a line to today's note without opening the app. Ask Siri, or use it in the Shortcuts app.
Moving from another app
Your notes come in as they are. Nothing you already have in Stillmark Note is changed.
Obsidian
- Your vault is already a folder of .md files.
- Import Files or Folder… and pick the vault folder (or a .zip of it).
- Folders named Projects, Areas, Resources or Archives can go straight into yours.
- Images embedded with ![[photo.png]] show in your notes as they are.
Bear
- In Bear: File › Export Notes, choose Markdown or TextBundle.
- Import the exported folder, the .textbundle files, or a .bear2bk backup.
- Images come along into an attachments folder next to the notes.
Notion
- In Notion: Settings › Export, choose Markdown & CSV.
- Import the .zip as it is.
- Page names lose Notion's long ids, and links between pages become [[links]]. Tables (CSV) aren't imported.
Apple Notes
- Apple Notes has no export.
- Open a note, select all and copy, then in Stillmark Note hold New Note › New Note from Clipboard.
